Charlotte, N.C.

Dear Senator Erwin [sic] :–

We know that you hardly have time to read your mail these days, but we wanted you to have this little clipping from our Charlotte Observer this past Sunday.

We hope that people are becoming more aware of what this so-called Civil Rights Bill covers. It is about ten percent civil rights and about ninety percent federal control over all our lives. We don’t want to take anything away from the negroes, but we surely don’t intend to socialize with them either. The colored men that work for my husband’s company, City Oil Co., are paid large salaries and treated well, but we don’t mix socially and I don’t feel that any government can force such as that.

Thanks so very much for all that you are doing for our State and Country!

Sincerely,

Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Eaton
